Postcards from Naxx

|
I got to got to Naxxaramas 10 for the first time on Saturday, and despite being up until an ungodly time of the morning, I had fun!  I did Archavon 25 the other day in a PUG, and that's all the Wrath raiding I've done so far.

I got some nice new gloves from Naxx.  I like the place, nice trash:boss ratio (that is, not much trash!).  The gargoyles that heal themselves if you don't burn them down quickly are irritating (especially at 3am) but on the whole it's a fun place.  I'm looking forward to doing more there.

Here's some screenies.  I did miss getting screenies when we killed Grand Widow and Noth the Plaguebringer, unfortunately.

RP Catch-Up

|
Well, creaky old Argent Dawn is down again, so I may as well do a post that I've been meaning to do.

This is sort of a "for me" post, as I don't think many other people would be interested in it.  I want to catch up my characters' stories to Wrath.

Alyviel has continued her work with the Argent Dawn, continuing on to Northrend to join the ranks of the Argent Crusade as a scout.  She fights against the Scourge as she always has, travelling with the other members of the Agents of Stromgarde, sent to the frozen north to aid the Alliance in this troublesome time.

AlyAim.jpg

Eledith, her hair now white from the life-sapping energies that she has finally thrown off, hasEledith new look.jpg followed her sister to Northrend.  Much more experienced and worldly now, the young druid lends her aid to the Alliance in healing their wounded and fighting alongside their soldiers.  She has taken the markings of an adult, copying those of her sister to show the family ties.

Yolana, the Draenei warrior, has gone into intense training back at the Exodar.  She will not travel to Northrend to aid their new allies in this fight until she is ready.

EmeDalaran.jpg

Emelyn, the power-hungry warlock, has travelled to Dalaran to study.  With her youthful appearence, she doubts that any of her old friends will recognise her and she can take all the knowledge she desires from the Kirin Tor.

The Waiting Game

|
Now it begins!

My father will be sending me the Wrath code as soon as he gets his hands on my copy, and then will mail it to me.  I won't be making the same mistake as I did with BC, though ... putting the code in without having the game installed means you can't play at all.  I'm keeping an eye on the Wrath downloader.  It's not working yet but maybe it will be soon.  It's now just a matter of waiting to see which happens first - the Wrath downloader becomes available, or my parcel gets here from across the pond.

In the meantime, I'll sit on the docks and sigh, emotionally.

(I'm actually leaving for my teacher training class in about 30 minutes.  And I will likely be playing copious amounts of Fallout 3, Fable 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour over the next few days!)

Mooooving on. :D

|
It was amazing while it lasted properly.  I think some people are still continuing, as they've ended up spread out by the lag and the crashing.  In respect for BRK's wishes and for my poor home server, I'm leaving my little cow just outside of Booty Bay.  I'll delete her in a moment to free up room.

Just for proof:

Wrath Countdown

|
Well, this time next week people will be playing Wrath of the Lich King!

Except for me.

I'll be crying.  Well, probably not.  I do have Fallout 3, Fable 2 and I will have Guitar Hero World Tour to keep me entertained.

But being a UK player on the US servers means I have to get my hands on a US copy of Wrath.  Thankfully, my Dad lives over in NJ so he's ordered me a copy, but it'll be a few extra days before I get it.

It took me two weeks to get BC, but that was a combination of many factors, including the Post Office and the tax people not liking me getting shinies from overseas and holding onto it until I cough up the duties.

On the upside, I did manage to steer my father towards Amazon during the short amount of time that you could order Collectors Editions, so I think I've been lucky enough to have one of those on its way.  It just has to go to him first, and then to me.

In other news, I went out yesterday to Tanaris and joined up with a fun couple of people, and the evening's work resulted in a full set of the Blessed mail armour for Alyviel, an Argent Dawn tabard and the horn that calls the Argent Knight!

BRK is having another Running of the Bulls event on Saturday that I'm going to try and be part of.

Big Devilsaur is Big!

|
I've been having fun with the new hunter stuff.  With a LOT of help from Maelwyn and Raecrister I got a Molten Core hound.  I also have a devilsaur.

Today we went into Durnholde just to mess about, and we decided to see just how big we could make him.  What you see below are the results of us playing with the devilsaur ability of monstrous bite, which makes him bigger, bestial wrath and heroism.  These stacked together resulted in a very large dino.  He's not really an indoor pet, that's for certain...

Also, curiously enough... my elf turned into a different human than she did before, and all I've done is change her hair.  The model must depend on the hairstyle!

My devilsaur (Albert) went from level 65 to 66 and 2/3 during the run, so the pet levelling is faster than it was.

Being Prepared

|
There's a very good reason why my cursor moves to hover over my Skyguard Drape key when I use my Gadgetzan teleporter.  Today I was again proven right as I popped into the sky and began to fall, then slowed to a nice floating glide.

Looks like some other people weren't quite as prepared, though...

Holy Carp Dailys!

|

I am reeeaaally liking this patch.  I went out for about an hour and a half and did the new dailys on Aly.

Holycarpdailys.JPG

That is: The two from Shattrath, two on the island, two up at the throne of Kil'jaeden and the fishing daily.  Between the quest kills and turnins I got a nice amount of gold, the water walking pot (from the fishing daily), about six green items, some cloth and ... TWO badges of justice!  Holy carp.

The island spawns are insane right now though.  There weren't as many people there as last night, I was getting jumped all over!

I also noticed that they've changed the animation for the engineering mote gatherer, but I need to get a screenie of that before I post properly on it.

Now I need to go run new dailys on my other characters.  *scurries*

Fireworks, yay!

|

Last night I took part in a fundraising event organised by one of our guild's bank officers.  She asked people their gathering professions and what they wanted to do, then sent people out mining, herbing, skinning or farming.

Of course, Megawatt and I being slightly odd people, we decided to farm Stratholme instead of anything more obvious.  We did Live side, then decided to give the Baron a try.  In the end we came out with 3 righteous orbs, over a dozen shards, an epic tailoring pattern (Truefaith Vestments) and an epic axe, along with a few other bits and pieces.  Of course, that epic stuff never drops when I'm solo'ing in there for cash.  Pshaw.

We had a guild auction for some flasks, and for a while Mega and I were bidding against each other.  I attempted to misdirect a banshee onto him to distract him, but the price got a little too high for my liking.

After the fund raiser, I swapped from Alyviel to Yolana, and got our members together to whack Omen.  We had 15 people, a few of which were under 60, and we gathered in Moonglade.  Some frantic "Oh no we only have one healer" and "Get out of the AOE!"s later, and Omen was vanquished.

Like all good events, this ended with fireworks.

Character Introduction: Alyviel

|

So, I'm on an RP server (Argent Dawn).  And even though I don't get to RP very much, my characters still have backgrounds to them.  That and their OOC backgrounds.  I figured I may as well introduce each of my main characters.

This is the first.

AlyShoot.JPGName:  Alyviel Leafstalker

Age:  She stopped counting a long time ago.  In her thousands.

Background:

Alyviel is the daughter of a druid and a priestess.  She was originally trained in the traditional way, and served for many years as a Priestess of the Moon, and eventually as a Sentinel.

She eventually fell in love with a young druid named Daedd.  Suffering the years apart when he was slumbering in the Emerald Dream, their relationship ended in tragedy when he was killed in a terrible accident.  Aly's faith was shattered and she turned her back on Elune and her culture, travelling to the Eastern Kingdoms on her own.  There she wandered for many years, keeping no company but her own and eventually that of a lion who she rescued as a cub from predators and befriended.

Mauja.JPG

Alyviel and Mauja eventually discovered the gnome city of Gnomeregan.  Fascinated by their technology, something that she had never seen on Kalimdor, Aly spent years studying the diminutive race and their ways.  Eventually she became frustrated with their lack of caution, however, and once again struck out on her own.

When the Scourge came, Aly threw herself into the fighting.  With her lion by her side, the former Sentinel was a formidable force and she aided many small villages in fleeing from the undead.  During the Third War, it was inevitable that she come into contact with her own people again.  At first reluctant, she was eventually persuaded to travel home and be reuinited with her family.  In her absence, her parents had produced a daughter, Eledith, who was training to be a druid.  Against her parent's wishes, Eledith travelled to the Eastern Kingdoms to fight against the Burning Legion, and Aly followed to keep an eye on her.

Personality:

Used to solitude, Aly can come across as distant and aloof.  The only being she really trusts is her lion, Mauja, and she has no great love for anybody else.  Uncomfortable in cities, she spends most of her time roaming the wilds.  Recently she has spend a lot of time in the Outland, battling against the Burning Legion with a fierce passion.

The lighter side of her personality only tends to come out around gnomes and as part of her engineering background, leading to some mishaps with the gadgets she tinkers with.

OOC Background:

Aly isn't my first character, but she is the first I got to 60 and then to 70.  I liked the idea of a hunter, running around with a pet.  In SWG I had played a creature handler, and this sounded somewhat like that.  I also used to solo a lot and she was a perfect fit for that.

Nowadays Aly tends to be my farming character, although I do take her along raiding sometimes.  I still enjoy her playstyle very much but there are a whole lot of hunters out there.  I still maintain that the class is easy to learn, very difficult to master.
