RP Questions

Saw this over at Typhoon Andrew's blog and decided to steal it!  He got it from other people so it's only fair.  ;)  I do like RPing and my main character all have their own personalities, I just don't get to express them very often.

Read his here: Eye of the Storm

What is your name and where did it come from?

My name is Eledith.  My parents gave it to me.  I think it means something profound but i forgot what.

How old are you and what is your birthday?

I am 245 and a half!  My birthday is in the same week that we help orphans, isn't that weird?

Are you in love and with whom?

Don't tell ihim!  I have a biiiiig crush on Eilthredon, he's so cute and all heroic when he bashes nasty things with his shield and keeps them away from me.

What is your favorite mount and why?

I love my horse!  A man that I helped to heal gave him to me.  I also love my bronze drake friend, Taladormu.  We fly all over, sometimes he flies and I fly with him as a bird and sometimes I go on his back.

Do you have a preferred type of Azerothian meal and where do you get it from?

Mmmmm berries!  Berries berries berries.  i used to think ones from Darnassus were the best but then I went to Dalaran!

You know those giant mushrooms in Zangermarsh?  What is your theory on how they came to be and why they are so huge?

I think it's a natural process of evolution whereby the spores of the mushrooms retained the best genetic code and grew taller because the mists and other plants were preventing the sun and rain from getting to them.  Either that or the draenei did something!

If you saw the Lich King walking toward you, what would you do?

Hide behind Eilthredon.

RP Catch-Up

Well, creaky old Argent Dawn is down again, so I may as well do a post that I've been meaning to do.

This is sort of a "for me" post, as I don't think many other people would be interested in it.  I want to catch up my characters' stories to Wrath.

Alyviel has continued her work with the Argent Dawn, continuing on to Northrend to join the ranks of the Argent Crusade as a scout.  She fights against the Scourge as she always has, travelling with the other members of the Agents of Stromgarde, sent to the frozen north to aid the Alliance in this troublesome time.

Eledith, her hair now white from the life-sapping energies that she has finally thrown off, hasEledith new look.jpg followed her sister to Northrend.  Much more experienced and worldly now, the young druid lends her aid to the Alliance in healing their wounded and fighting alongside their soldiers.  She has taken the markings of an adult, copying those of her sister to show the family ties.

Yolana, the Draenei warrior, has gone into intense training back at the Exodar.  She will not travel to Northrend to aid their new allies in this fight until she is ready.

Emelyn, the power-hungry warlock, has travelled to Dalaran to study.  With her youthful appearence, she doubts that any of her old friends will recognise her and she can take all the knowledge she desires from the Kirin Tor.

Character Introduction: Kaliaa

|
It's been a while since I've done one of these, so here we go!

Name: Kaliaa Shadowstep
Age: Mid-20s when alive, plus a few years in the service of Arthas.

(Yes, I know the Death Knight starting experience makes it less time than that, but I'm taking artistic license for RP!)

Kaliaa was a Knight of the Silver Hand, a paladin fighting for the forces of good.  Like so many, she was killed in service and raised to be an undead servant of the Lich King.

As a slave of the Scourge, she performed many evil deeds.  When Darion Morgraine broke free of the Lich King's thrall, Kaliaa saw this as an opportunity to further her own ends rather than those of the Scourge and she joined the Knights of the Ebon Blade, turning against her former comrades.

She remembers little of her life, instead choosing to take what she can get out of her unlife and to forcibly carve a path for herself.

She even fought her way through the ransacked city of Stratholme to confront Baron Rivendare, intending to take over his seat of power.  To her surprise, he was absent from his post.  Torturing some of the near-mindless ghosts there revealed that he was now in Northrend, in the necropolis Naxxramas.

Not wishing to cease in her quest for power, that is where Kaliaa now goes.  If she has to co-operate with some of the Alliance to get there, it is a small price to pay.

Quests, Alignment and RP.

|

Yesterday I travelled to the top of a lava-strewn mountain, where I spoke to a dragon that attempted to strike a deal with me.  I refused to deal and after an epic battle, my party and I were triumphant.  A few days before that, I talked down a hostage situation and resolved it with no deaths, convinced an evil warlock to join my band of adventurers, and became a Knight.

Was this RPing in an MMO?  Nope.  Neverwinter Nights 2 has claimed a lot of my current play-time.  And I realised what it is that I'm missing in World of Warcraft, and in all MMORPGs.

That sense of immersion that comes from the NPCs reacting to your conversation choices.  To being able to complete a quest in a number of different ways, depending on your class and alignment.  Actually having an alignment, and it being changed by the way you play (Currently I'm a maxed out Lawful Good paladin/fighter/divine champion) and even dictating how you play.

It would be nice to see a little of this.  Granted in an MMO the rules are different, because it's not just you playing through a single-player campaign, but it would be nice if we saw some quests where we can choose how to complete them, or some NPCs in the world would greet us based on things we've done - Not just on a reputation bar.  The big difference is of course that in a single-played game, you only do things once.  This dungeon or cave is gone once you've gone through it, this NPC is dead "forever".  It would take some work and imagination to weave more seamlessly into an MMO but I think it could be done.

I'm pretty excited to see what BioWare are coming up with, given that I'm such a big fan of Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights.  I could see either of them being adapted into an MMO, and they both feature heavily an alignment system.

And just for fun:

What alignment is your character?

Emelyn is chaotic evil ... no surprise there!
