Ding to the Third Degree

|
A little while ago, around the time that the billionth person died (and released) in Naxx and had to run back and make us clear the slime room again, I decided to level my 70 warlock up to 80.

Last night, I hit the ding!  This makes my third level 80 character.

Questing in Zul'drak is what did it.  I really like the questlines in that place, between the Ebon Blade, Argent Crusade and the trolls.

Beside me you can see my levelling partner (who hit 80 a couple of hours later after a Gundrak run and another quest).  He also happens to be my lovely boyfriend who I met through WoW.  Maybe more on that at another time, it's all still pretty new.

Through the wonders of tailoring and jewelcrafting, I had made myself a handful of nice items so the moment I hit 80, I geared myself up.  The ebonweave gloves and robe look rather nice.

Here's how the warlock looks now.  Anyone who's read this blog for a little while or that looks through the older posts will notice that she's undergone some changes in hairstyle/colour and her piercings are different.

I am enjoying affliction, although there is a heck of a lot to keep track of.  I actually have DoT timer but I tend to just watch the Quartz bars instead.  I like the new summoning mechanic, even if it does look like a demon flasher but I hope they put single-target summoning back in as an option for spot-summons.  It's silly having to summon the stone for a 5-man group when only one person needs it.

Hoping to take Emelyn to Naxx tonight, watch this space.

Nice Christmas Story :D

|
It's lovely to be able to post one of these.

It's not really a Christmas story, persay ... it could have happened at any time.  But it happened on Christmas Eve, so I'm claiming it as one, goshdarnit!

I was out questing in Scalawag Point on my druid (newly respecced to boomkin, which is a lot of fun - going back resto once I hit 80) in Howling Fjord when I saw a yellow dot on my radar.  Ore!  Getitgetitgetit!  I raced around the hill and up, to get the precioussssss.

There I saw an orc death knight fighting a trio of bears.  I jumped into boomkin and helped him finish them off, then we did the good ol' emote communication.  He took some whacks at the ore, then I did.  Nice and sharing and I rode off with a smile.  I hate when people ninja nodes off me, so I try not to do it to others (occasionally I just don't see them, but I make an effort not to do it on purpose).

Doesn't end there!

A few minutes later, I get a whisper from a very flatteringly-named lowbie and we have a short conversaton.

Niceorc.jpg

That was so nice :D

I've not put his (or her) name in here in case they don't wish to be named, but I'll be pointing them in this direction.

Thank you again!  It was a really nice gesture to go to the trouble of making a toon, and it was good to share the ore.

So that's my cheery story for the day.  Happy holidays everyone!

Postcards from Naxx

|
I got to got to Naxxaramas 10 for the first time on Saturday, and despite being up until an ungodly time of the morning, I had fun!  I did Archavon 25 the other day in a PUG, and that's all the Wrath raiding I've done so far.

I got some nice new gloves from Naxx.  I like the place, nice trash:boss ratio (that is, not much trash!).  The gargoyles that heal themselves if you don't burn them down quickly are irritating (especially at 3am) but on the whole it's a fun place.  I'm looking forward to doing more there.

Here's some screenies.  I did miss getting screenies when we killed Grand Widow and Noth the Plaguebringer, unfortunately.

Ding!

|
I managed to catch the moment on screenshot.  I dinged as a ghoul, which I find quite hilarious.  I enjoyed the whole questline.  I managed to get my level, the Drakuru achievement and the Ultimate Triage achievement all in the space of an hour.

Ding80.jpg

It's been a nice journey to 80.  I've not been powering it, as I just don't have time with work and everything.  While I'm off over Christmas I may spend some time on my druid but I think she'll be waiting for dual specs, so I can level as a boomkin but still heal instances without having to spend a lot of gold.

I also picked myself up a new pet.  Very pretty kitty.  I do love my devilsaur but he's just too large for instances.  I hope they introduce some more high-DPS exotic pets that aren't huge.  The only one is the spirit beast, and that's very difficult to get.

That's how stunned I am at the Wrath Gate event and the cinematic.

Wow.

I wasn't even expecting it, as I had no idea when in the questline it was, or even if I was on that particular one.

That was amazing.

I need to go pick my jaw up now.

RP Catch-Up

|
Well, creaky old Argent Dawn is down again, so I may as well do a post that I've been meaning to do.

This is sort of a "for me" post, as I don't think many other people would be interested in it.  I want to catch up my characters' stories to Wrath.

Alyviel has continued her work with the Argent Dawn, continuing on to Northrend to join the ranks of the Argent Crusade as a scout.  She fights against the Scourge as she always has, travelling with the other members of the Agents of Stromgarde, sent to the frozen north to aid the Alliance in this troublesome time.

AlyAim.jpg

Eledith, her hair now white from the life-sapping energies that she has finally thrown off, hasEledith new look.jpg followed her sister to Northrend.  Much more experienced and worldly now, the young druid lends her aid to the Alliance in healing their wounded and fighting alongside their soldiers.  She has taken the markings of an adult, copying those of her sister to show the family ties.

Yolana, the Draenei warrior, has gone into intense training back at the Exodar.  She will not travel to Northrend to aid their new allies in this fight until she is ready.

EmeDalaran.jpg

Emelyn, the power-hungry warlock, has travelled to Dalaran to study.  With her youthful appearence, she doubts that any of her old friends will recognise her and she can take all the knowledge she desires from the Kirin Tor.

Five Seconds!

|
This is mostly for Maelwyn/Admosmori as he didn't see it.

The background: We were running a last 70 hoorah in Kara last night for fun and to get some people levelling gear.  We were doing a quick loot system, where people had 5 seconds to roll on an item.

The NPC decided that Admosmori wasn't being authorative enough.

And on an expansion update: I have Wrath downloaded and installed, and now I'm just frantically refreshing my e-mail every 10 seconds in the hopes that my Dad has magically got the delivery and e-mailed me the code while he's probably at work.  You never know.

I hopped on briefly to see who was about and most of my best playing buddies are on and exploring Northrend for the first time.  I logged back off, it was too painful!

The Waiting Game

|
Now it begins!

My father will be sending me the Wrath code as soon as he gets his hands on my copy, and then will mail it to me.  I won't be making the same mistake as I did with BC, though ... putting the code in without having the game installed means you can't play at all.  I'm keeping an eye on the Wrath downloader.  It's not working yet but maybe it will be soon.  It's now just a matter of waiting to see which happens first - the Wrath downloader becomes available, or my parcel gets here from across the pond.

In the meantime, I'll sit on the docks and sigh, emotionally.

(I'm actually leaving for my teacher training class in about 30 minutes.  And I will likely be playing copious amounts of Fallout 3, Fable 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour over the next few days!)

Wrath Countdown

|
Well, this time next week people will be playing Wrath of the Lich King!

Except for me.

I'll be crying.  Well, probably not.  I do have Fallout 3, Fable 2 and I will have Guitar Hero World Tour to keep me entertained.

But being a UK player on the US servers means I have to get my hands on a US copy of Wrath.  Thankfully, my Dad lives over in NJ so he's ordered me a copy, but it'll be a few extra days before I get it.

It took me two weeks to get BC, but that was a combination of many factors, including the Post Office and the tax people not liking me getting shinies from overseas and holding onto it until I cough up the duties.

On the upside, I did manage to steer my father towards Amazon during the short amount of time that you could order Collectors Editions, so I think I've been lucky enough to have one of those on its way.  It just has to go to him first, and then to me.

In other news, I went out yesterday to Tanaris and joined up with a fun couple of people, and the evening's work resulted in a full set of the Blessed mail armour for Alyviel, an Argent Dawn tabard and the horn that calls the Argent Knight!

BRK is having another Running of the Bulls event on Saturday that I'm going to try and be part of.

Shhhh...

It's quiet.

Too quiet.

What's that sound?

It's ... a post!

Yes, I've been gone for forever.  Between a new job (teaching) and teacher training and actually getting a social life (gasp!) this WoW player has been very busy.  And not playing WoW.

However, with the Big Patch hitting today and Wrath in a month, I figured it might be time to dust the old blog off and get back to the fun.

Wrath Information Overload!

|
Wow.  From there being not much information about Wrath of the Lich King, it's suddenly exploded into a wealth of it.  I'm not going to respost everything, just talk about some of my favourite things.

Death Knights

I'm really looking forward to making a Death Knight, and it sounds like the class will be a blast to play.  I think my poor warrior is going to get neglected as the DK may replace her as my tank.

This is an interesting snippet, saying you may be able to make a Death Knight of either faction.  This means that if you have all Alliance characters you could potentially have a level 55 Horde without having to reroll.  The question in the post is more for PVP realms, I think, as you can only have characters of one faction on a PVP server, but it opens up all sorts of possibilities.  If you have Horde friends on the same server you could make a Horde Death Knight and play them up to the new level cap with a lot less work than starting over.  Of course, with the limit being one DK per server, you then couldn't have an alliance one.

Factions

Here is the main article with all the snippets.  The most interesting thing for me is that Hemet Nesingwary will have a rival faction.  Wow.  Hemet would have to offer something pretty dang special to avoid me trying to kill him for all of those hunting quests he made me do.  The "Wolvar" sound like they might be a worgen faction, perhaps some that are a little smarter and have broken away from Arugal or whomever is controlling them?

That also brings me nicely to my next topic;

Lore

Wow oh wow is there a lot of stuff to cover.  I love the Azerothian stories.  Don't get me wrong, some of the Outland stuff is entertaining, but after having levelled several characters through Ashenvale and Duskwood I have come to love the Worgen tales and legends, such as those covered in the Scythe of Elune quest.  It sounds like the worgen lore will be developed further and I can't WAIT.

There's also some dragon lore that I'm looking forward to as well, but I really do have an unhealthy obsession with the Worgen.

Yayworgen.jpg

Then of course, there's...

Raiding

A subject near and dear to me, and something I'd like to be able to do more of but can't.  The news here is that all of the raid instances will have 10-man and 25-man settings!  Wow.  I really like this.  It means that I'll be able to experience the raids without having to wait for 24 other people to be ready, just 9.  For somebody in what is now a small guild, this is massive.  And they've even said that doing the 10-man selection for a raid WILL NOT lock you out of the 25-man, so potentially you could do both.  The progression also isn't going to be as linear
as it is now, no more attunments... they really are making it better for the casual player, which I certainly am now I'm working.

I really really like this - the gear will be better in the 25-mans (of course), but it sounds like it'll be possible to see much more of the endgame content with a small group than is currently the case.
