I do not have cable, so I have been watching the races the next week, after my dad has taped them and gotten me the tapes. not a great solution, and a rain delay will pretty much kill my chances of seeing it all, but it is all I can do. Of late a very interesting commercial has caught my eye. Referred to as 'the star one', it has a number of stars from Brad Pitt to Dennis Hopper, Tom Hanks to Antonio Banderas. They talk of poverty, of death, and about doing something. "We're not asking for your money, we're asking for your voice", they say. Their site, One.org, is as simple, and as straight forward as the message. They want people to write their leaders. They want people to do something about this, even if an email is all you can do. The commercial is powerful in message, but even more powerful in those bringing the message forth. Yes, one or two often do speak up. This is dozens. The end to poverty across the world, from the slums of civilized countries, to the poorest corners of the world, is a noble, and necessary gift. Perhaps something should be done about it.
